For this blog post, I did my research on some trends that are making their way into kitchens across the country this year. But design is subjective. So am I into them or not so much? And better question- are you?
1. Nature Palette- Greens, blues, browns, tans- straying away from cool tones like grays, and whites. 100% YAH for me. Truthfully, I always found a cooler palette not as inviting. The beiges and the greens and the browns give me all the feels. They instantly give me a sense of serenity, which I think a home should do.
2. Kitchen Zoning- Creating private spaces within a home is more important than ever, but do I love? Not really. If you are lacking square footage, absolutely. However, I think that there are other spaces in the home that you can carve out for work. These kitchen cubbies seem to defeat the purpose of the "open floor plan." I would try to find somewhere else in the house to get creative where you can have a fold out desk or put a small divider in for a work space. What do you think?

3. Glazed Tile Backsplash- OBSESSED. I love how it gives a little flare to the space, and I also love how different it looks from various angles. The uneven texture gives a more comfortable vibe that I appreciate– I don’t know if it's just me, but when things are too pristine and perfect, it can feel cold. So totally diggin this look above.
4. Backsplash to the ceiling- This is cool, and I haven’t seen it in too many homes. My brother-in-law and his family have it in their beautifully renovated, new home, and it is gorgeous! It brings the eye all the way up, which creates the feeling of a larger space. Especially if the cabinets don’t go all the way to the ceiling or if the ceilings in your home are lower, the backsplash all the way up can play tricks on the eye and give your house a “grand” feel.

5. White Appliances- Can you believe these are coming into style again? When I first think of white appliances, it reminds me of the good old days of my parents’ kitchen with the white formica cabinets and white appliances to match. However, I think that the gold accents give a very chic look to a kitchen. But I am so into the gold accents right now, and sadly, I am not sure how long they will last. The gold just gives such a clean, stylish vibe that I think is very elevating, but perhaps it is just a fad…I am teetering back and forth on this one, but I think it depends on the space for sure. Your safest bet is stainless steel. But to that end, I also love the panel-ready appliances too, which are making a comeback! Woohoo! I think it is just so cool how the appliances simply merge into the rest of the room. The conspicuous feel of the appliances gives the space a more artistic, decorative feel, instead of simply “functional.” Sure, a kitchen is supposed to be strictly functional, but why not have fun with it and make a design statement while you’re at it?

6. The Glorified Pantry- Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, I never really saw these large pantries. Actually, I don’t think I ever saw a pantry in my life. Instead, I saw soup cans, pasta boxes, etc. crammed into cabinets. But when I moved to Missouri, I realized that you can get a lot more bang for your buck here. So, I now I have a pantry, and boy, do I love it. Sometimes I will just stand and bask in all of the organized food that I now have space for! It is a beautiful thing to have a space where all of your food can be one spot. A space where you can hide your Keurig or your toaster. A space where you can hang a bulletin board and have all of your important dates displayed. To sum up, if you have the space, a pantry is key! Builders are focusing their energy more and more on the “glorified pantry”- fun tiling, sinks, windows, etc. to make it more than just a space to store, but a space to truly savor.
7. Arches- They are so in right now, and I CAN’T GET ENOUGH. This is my favorite kitchen trend right now, because it instantly adds character. Arches are seen in old homes all of the time, but in new builds, they are a rarity. We are bringing the “old-world” feel to the “new-world” kitchen- nothing I love more.

8. “Something Wood”- Okay, I lied. I just said that the arches are my favorite, but this is. Whether you’re kitchen is all black, all white, or anything in between- adding some wood cabinetry can be your conversation piece. These “hutch-like” cabinets on the countertop are fabulous. It is like a built-in china cabinet, and I am here for it! Mixing metals is also something that is making a comeback. Looking at this picture below, they have a chrome sink, brass lighting fixtures, and nickel fixtures, but yet, it all comes together seamlessly. Don’t be afraid to shake things up- uniformity and monotony isn’t always so great in our everyday lives, so why make our kitchens like that? Out with the stale, unchanging, kitchen, and in with the spontaneous, funky one instead!
